My name is Martin Deboo and I am The Inquisitive Capitalist.
I've had a 40+ year career embracing marketing, strategic consulting and finance, focussed principally on consumer goods and retail. At the start of my career, I was running focus groups on cereal bars. By the end, I was an equity analyst in the City of London, covering the likes of Nestle and Unilever. Over those 40+ years I have had the privilege of working for some blue chip names, amongst them Boase Massimi Pollittt (BMP), OC&C Strategy Consultants, Investec & Jefferies.
In 2022, I was ranked in the top 3 out of more than 50 analysts covering European consumer goods in the respected 'Institutional Investor' survey and was voted the City's 'Analyst of the Year' by City AM newspaper. I have an MBA from London Business School, where I graduated with Distinction in 1993. Subsequently, I served as Chair of the School's Global Alumni Organisation and was a member of the School's Governing Body for a decade.
My worldview has been shaped by two beliefs: One, that the pursuit of profit in free and competitive markets is a force for good. Two, that evidence and analysis illuminate the path to enlightenment. Hopefully both beliefs are reflected in this blog. I hope you find it stimulating.
